3 : a series of events or body of legend or tradition thought to form the proper subject of an epic <the winning of the West was a great American epic>
 (MERRIAM-WEBSTER ONLINE (www.Merriam-Webster.com) 2004 by Merriam-Webster, Incorporated.)

An epic explains the journey's of a hero. The hero will most likely be the main point of the epic. This hero must have superman abilities or supernatural strength. This hero also must represent one thing. As in Odysseus' case he stands for Greece. In Odysseus' travels, Gods interviend during his journey, which is another requirement for an epic.

An Epic must also be long in length and in poetic style. It must also start with an introduction. The Introduction is the time when the writer tries to speak to the reader. He or she will then ask for patience, listening ears, or judgements.

An Epic should begin in the middle or in the medias res. The hero or author will recount everything that already happened.
